License/Certification/Registration required? Yes
*Registration as a Health Information Technician (RHIT), Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Bachelors of Science Nursing (BSN), Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Doctor (MD) or comparable license required. The following are preferred: Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and ICD-10 certification or designation.

Education:
*As outlined in the above credentials' requirements.

Experience:
*5+ years coding experience for inpatient cases or solid clinical background in patient care preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Knowledge of electronic medical records, care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents.
*Knowledge of pediatric age-specific needs and the elements of disease processes and related procedures.
*Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills.
*Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment.
*Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment.
*Assertive, respectful personality traits to facilitate ongoing provider communication.
*Ability to stand, walk and read medical record documentation (paper and on-line) in the performance of job responsibilities.
*Working knowledge of reimbursement system and payer needs preferred, but not required.
